Celebrating its 15th year the 2025 New England Winter Blues Festival will be loaded to the hilt with harmonica royalty and a monster band that the whole Blues world is talking about. Headlining is the hippest harmonicat the world has ever known, Rick Estrin (Rick Estrin & the Nightcats), harmonic legend Jerry Portnoy (Muddy Waters Band, Eric Clapton Band) bonafide harmonica genius Jason Ricci (Jason Ricci & the Bad Kind, Desoto Tiger), the smooth yet monsterous Sugar Ray Norcia (Sugar Ray & Bluetones, Roomful of Blues) all backed by the powerhouse band The Wicked Lo-Down.

About Rick Estrin
Rick Estrin was born in San Francisco, California in 1949, and grew up fiercely independent. As a 10-year-old boy, he made his way to the tough Market Street area and befriended many of the neighborhood characters. When he was 12, his older sister gave him a copy of Ray Charles’ The Genius Sings The Blues, and he became infatuated with the music. Albums from Jimmy Reed, Champion Jack Dupree, Mose Allison, Nina Simone and others soon followed. By the time he was a teenager, Estrin had immersed himself in the urban, African-American culture surrounding him. He got his first harmonica at age 15, and by age 18 was proficient enough to begin sitting in at black clubs around the city. He first jammed with blues master Lowell Fulson and immediately was hired to open five shows for R&B giant Z.Z. Hill. He worked five nights a week for almost a year with guitar legend Travis Phillips in a band fronted by famed pimp/bluesman Fillmore Slim (who was the centerpiece of the acclaimed Hughes Brothers documentary American Pimp). Slim introduced Estrin to singer Rodger Collins, the man who would become Rick’s first real musical mentor. Collins schooled Rick on the finer points of songwriting and show business. At 19, Estrin relocated to Chicago and worked with some of the city’s best bluesmen. He met and jammed with the legendary Muddy Waters, who told Rick, “You outta sight, boy! You got that sound! You play like a man!” Muddy wanted Estrin to go on the road with him, but Estrin missed Muddy’s phone call and it never happened. Estrin eventually moved back to the Bay Area, met guitarist Charlie Baty and formed Little Charlie & The Nightcats. With Charlie’s retirement from touring in 2008, Rick brought in guitar virtuoso Kid Andersen and formed Rick Estrin & The Nightcats.

Estrin cites Sonny Boy Williamson II, Percy Mayfield and Detroit bluesman Baby Boy Warren as his major songwriting influences. His work on the reeds is deep in the tradition of harmonica masters Sonny Boy Williamson II and Little Walter Jacobs, while at the same time pushing that tradition forward with his innovative songs. And his sly and soulful vocals are the perfect vehicle for driving those songs home.

About Jerry Portnoy
Jerry Portnoy was born in 1943 and grew up in the blues-rich atmosphere of Chicago’s famous Maxwell Street Market during the golden age of Chicago Blues. He began his professional career in the late 60s and since that time has performed, live and on television, for millions of people around the world. During a career that includes six years as a member of the fabled Muddy Waters Blues Band, another six as leader of the Legendary Blues Band, four years at the head of his own band The Streamliners, and another four as a featured member of the Eric Clapton Band, his touring schedule has carried him to every state in the union and twenty-eight foreign countries on six continents, with performances at the White House, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, the Smithsonian, London’s Royal Albert Hall, and at major jazz festivals worldwide, including the Newport Jazz Festival, the Montreaux Jazz Festival, the Warsaw International Jazz Jamboree, the Hawaii Pacific Jazz and Music Fair, and the Grande Parade du Jazz in Nice, France.
Jerry has played on several Grammy Award-winning albums while recording with a wide variety of artists including Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Hubert Sumlin Bill Wyman and many others, and was a Grammy Award nominee in 1997 for his work with the Muddy Waters Tribute Band. Television credits include appearances on Saturday Night Live, Soundstage, MTV, VH1, and the Disney Channel, as well as writing and performing original music for Sesame Street. In addition, he has lectured at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and his definitive 3/CD instructional package, Jerry Portnoy’s Blues Harmonica Masterclass, is widely regarded as the premier teaching tool for those wishing to learn the instrument. Jerry Portnoy now makes his home outside Boston, Massachusetts.

About Jason Ricci
Jason Ricci is an award winning and decorated American singer and harmonica player. In his youth, Jason’s mother brought him to many live Blues shows in his early teens to witness performances of James Cotton, Charlie Musslewhite, Eddie Clearwater, Rod Piazza, Buckwheat Zydeco, Marcia Ball and many more. After studying at the feet of local New England harmonica players and blues musicians Jason moved west to Idaho to attend College. In Boise he found mentorship under Blues Club owner and Hammond B3 player Ken Harris. The relationship between Harris and Ricci, the lure of music and nightlife quickly replaced Jason’s formal studies. Ken Harris gave Ricci a low paying job, 10 dollars a night, working at the bar to allow the underage teen a legal pass to hear and play music. Ken Harris and music patron Dara Longabardi would aid an 18 year old Jason at “The Blues Bouquet” to perform with the likes of Sam Lay, Norton Buffalo, Eddie Shaw, Mark Hummel, Mel Solomon, Smokey Wilson and many more. Harmonica Player and Blues Singer Madison Slim spent many hours teaching Ricci. Jason would join his first band in Boise with Blues Singer Cyndie Lee and Streetwise.

About “Sugar Ray” Norcia
Singer, harp man and three time Grammy Nominee Sugar Ray Norcia’s career kicked into high gear in 1979 when he formed the original Sugar Ray and the Bluetones with guitar giant Ronnie Earl and it has stayed there ever since. Norcia has received a total of twenty two Blues Music Award Nominations including winning two Blues Music Awards in 2014 and has appeared on over sixty albums. In 2012 Ray was inducted into Rhode Island’s Music Hall of Fame. In 2016 Sugar Ray and his band The Bluetones released a CD called “Seeing Is Believing”. Sugar Ray was nominated for an unprecedented seven 2017 Blues Music Awards including Traditional Blues Male Artist and B.B. King Entertainer of the Year!

About The Outlaws

For The Outlaws, it’s always been about the music. For more than 40 years, the Southern Rock legends celebrated triumphs and endured tragedies to remain one of the most influential and best-loved bands of the genre. Today, The Outlaws have returned with new music, new focus, and an uncompromising new mission: It’s about a band of brothers bound together by history, harmony, and the road. It’s about a group that respects its own legacy while refusing to be defined by it’s past. But most of all, it’s about pride.

It’s About Pride was also the title of the band’s acclaimed 2012 album, universally hailed as their victorious comeback. “Because The Outlaws had been out of the public eye for so long, it was almost like starting over,” explains founding singer / songwriter / guitarist Henry Paul. “But because of the band’s history, we dig deeper, write better, perform stronger. Everything we do is to reinforce the notion that The Outlaws still matter, and that Southern Rock will always matter. It’s a message we’re proud to bring into the 21st century.”

History lesson: Formed in Tampa in 1972, The Outlaws – known for their triple-guitar rock attack and three-part country harmonies – became one of the first acts signed by Clive Davis (at the urging of Ronnie Van Zant) to his then-fledgling Arista Records. The band’s first three albums The OutlawsLady In Waiting, and Hurry Sundown – featuring such rock radio favorites as ‘There Goes Another Love Song,’ ‘Green Grass & High Tides,’ ‘Knoxville Girl,’ and ‘Freeborn Man’ – would become worldwide gold and platinum landmarks of the Southern Rock era. Known as ‘The Florida Guitar Army’ by their fans, The Outlaws earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act touring with friends The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band, as well as The Doobie Brothers, The Who, Eagles and The Rolling Stones. Henry Paul left after the group’s third album to form The Henry Paul Band for Atlantic Records, and later co-founded the multi-Platinum country trio BlackHawk. Over the next 20+ years, The Outlaws would experience rampant personnel changes, tonal missteps, ill-fated reunions, and bitter trademark battles that left fans, not to mention Paul, frustrated and saddened. And with the tragic deaths of co-founding members Frank O’Keefe and Billy Jones in 1995 and songwriter/vocalist/lead guitarist Hughie Thomasson in 2007, it was feared that The Outlaws’ trail had come to an end.

When Henry Paul took leadership of the band in 2008, he firmly put The Outlaws back on a path both trusted and celebrated by longtime fans. “Audiences discovered that The Outlaws have something to say that is as engaging as when we began,” says Paul, “which is why every night when we perform, we give nothing less than everything we’ve got.” Along with founding member Paul, the band features several of Southern Rock’s most respected players: Keyboardist/vocalist Dave Robbins is a co-founding member of BlackHawk and has written hits for artists that include Restless Heart, Kenny Rogers and Eric Clapton. Longtime bassist/vocalist Randy Threet has performed with Trisha Yearwood, Pam Tillis, and BlackHawk, and is familiar to audiences from USA Network’s ‘Nashville Star.’ Lead guitarist Jimmy Dormire has played to millions with Confederate Railroad, Colonel Bruce Hampton, and The Luke Wheeler Band on the TV series Nashville. Drummer Michael Grando – who replaces the band’s retired / beloved co-founder Monte Yoho – has powered the beat for artists that include Joe Diffie, Jason Aldean, and Chris Knight. Vocalist / co-guitarist Jeff Aulich brings new fire to the band’s harmony arrangements and six-string pyrotechnics. The Outlaws have not only re-emerged as what fans now call ‘Southern Rock’s Last Band Standing,’ but as a dedicated band of brothers who still write, play and perform with the skill, grit, and fire of acts a fraction of their age. “I want the fans to see the band’s growth and recognize the quality of the music,” Henry says. “We’re focused on where we come from, where we’re headed and how much fun we’re still having on the ride.”

As live performers, the band burns hotter than ever. “The Outlaws helped define Southern Rock for me and for generations of fans,” wrote music journalist Bill Robinson in The Huffington Post. “Seeing them onstage with The Charlie Daniels Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd or countless others was, for a long time, one of the best experiences I could have. And so it was again when I saw The Outlaws play recently.” The band’s concerts – vividly captured in their 2016 double album Legacy Live – are blazing 2+ hour tributes to the band’s rich history and fiery rebirth. Classic tracks and fan favorites from the first three albums – as well as The Henry Paul Band’s definitive ‘Grey Ghost’ – share the spotlight with songs from It’s About Pride and 2020’s acclaimed Dixie Highway that have been enthusiastically embraced by audiences. “I think our new material goes back to those three classic Outlaws albums, when the band was proud of its influences from country, blues and jazz,” says Paul. “Plus, Jimmy and Jeff have honored and maybe even stepped up the legacy of ‘The Guitar Army’. Our goal is to unite the fans and bring the band back into the light. It’s about finishing what we started.” For Henry, Dave, Randy, Jimmy, Michael, and Jeff, it’s also about a band of brothers who love playing their own brand of rock, and who 40+ years ago first got the chance to share it with the world.

For The Outlaws, it’s still about the music. And now more than ever, it’s about pride.

Meet the Comedians

Although these ladies travel the country as true professional stand up comedians, each having their own long list of impressive credits, here in a Mother of a Comedy Show they come together as friends! Christine Hurley, Kelly MacFarland and Kerri Louise have all battled in the comedy clubs and done hundreds of theatre shows. The Mother of a Comedy Show gets all these comedic talents together on one stage.

Kerri Louise

Who can turn the world on with her smile? Mary Tyler Moore. But who can turn the world on with her hysterical stories, original humor, and boisterous characters? Kerri Louise. High-energy, commanding and versatile–but enough about her sex life-Kerri Louise can entertain any audience with her warmth and razor-edge wit. She just filmed the hit, new, stand-up show “Gotham Live” on AXS-TV. Kerri was a regular correspondent on the Oprah Winfrey Show and that lead her to be a guest on the very first episode of The Dr. OZ Show. NBC took Kerri all the way to the finals in the show Last Comic Standing. Her performance on that show prompted The Women’s Entertainment Network to make her the star of her own reality show called “TWO FUNNY”. Howard Stern said,“She needs a sitcom!” Other guest appearances include… TV Guide’s “Stand-Up In Stilettos”, NBC’s “The Apprentice”, The Montel Show, Nickelodeon’s “Nick Mom Night Out”, Comedy Central, NBC’s “Access Hollywood”, ABC’s “The View” among many more.

Christine Hurley

Christine Hurley loves what she does…making people laugh! Married to Jimmy Hurley and having five kids, Christine is never at a loss for comedic material.

Like any great comedian, Christine has an innate ability to see humor in “everyday” situations. For years, she entertained family, friends and neighbors in their kitchens, at barbeques and the grocery store aisles. The only difference now is she uses a microphone and a stage.

Christine’s maiden voyage into the world of stand up comedy was an open audition in New York City. The television network Nick at Nite was looking for “AMERICA’S FUNNIEST MOM.” She figured if it didn’t go well, no one in New York would have known who she was anyway…

Turns out it went well! Out of thousands of entries, Christine was selected to be a finalist on the nationally televised show. The producers of the show included Carol Leifer (Seinfeld show producer), Jeff Singer (talent scout, Montreal Comedy Festival), Jeffrey Ross (Comedy Central roast master) and actress Sandra Bernhardt.

Her stories and views on motherhood and marriage are exactly what everyone is living through…people get it and love it!

Christine Hurley has quickly become a favorite in the Boston comedy world. She just got a standing ovation at Denis Leary’s Comics Come Home, one of the biggest comedy event in the country!

Kelly MacFarland

As an experienced stand up comedian, Kelly has an extensive and well-rounded resume including comedy clubs, theaters, colleges and several television appearances.

Kelly is currently touring clubs and colleges across the country and has entertained our US troops overseas. Kelly headlined the 2009 Boston Women in Comedy Festival, was first runner up in the 2009 Boston Comedy Festival, voted Best of the Fest 2010 Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival, appeared in the Oddball Festival 2015 and performed at Boston Calling 2016 and 2017. About Draw the Line

It doesn’t get more authentic than this… period!

Draw the Line – the “Officially Endorsed Aerosmith Tribute Show” – originated near Boston Massachusetts, the same as Aerosmith themselves. Established in 1991, Draw the Line has been touring for more than 30 years spanning the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe. DTL has played over 3,000 shows to sold out Audiences of up to 20,000 people. From MGM Grand Arena Las Vegas, to festivals throughout the USA, plus many legendary theaters, casinos, and cruise ships, Draw the Line is the standard for tribute shows.

During a January 1998 radio interview, Aerosmith Lead Singer Steven Tyler singled out Draw the Line as the best of the Aerosmith tribute bands. With disc jockey Nik Carter adding, “I’ve seen Draw the Line. They are Aerosmith!!” DTL has been featured in international fanzines, Boston Globe, Boston Herald and other newspapers across the country. DTL has been featured on MTV and AXSTV World’s Greatest Tribute Bands as the best Aerosmith tribute show.

They are the only tribute band that has been featured on Aerosmith’s website as well as their Aero Force One official fan club. With support and accolades from Aerosmith themselves, as well as journalists, top DJs, and fans worldwide, it’s no wonder Draw the Line is recognized as a one-of-its-kind. “A professional show band in a league of their own amongst tribute acts and of a caliber that is unparalleled in the tribute genre”, says Joe Reardon, reporter for the Mariner newspaper group.

Aerosmith members have been known to appear at DTL shows over the years, with original founding Aerosmith member Ray Tabano frequently jamming with them – you never know who you’ll see at a DTL show!

Draw the Line features lead vocalist Neill Byrnes, a true Steven Tyler doppelgänger . Neill won a Steven Tyler lookalike contest during Aerosmith’s Pump tour, which would end up kickstarting his 30 plus year career as Steven Tyler. He has appeared on talk shows, tv commercials, done voice overs and movies. He recently appeared in the 2020 Lynyrd Skynyrd biopic “Street Survivors” as Steven Tyler.

Draw the Line, in addition to Neill, boasts some incredibly talented musicians as well

  • Gino Caira (Joe Perry)

  • Jim Dennis (Brad Whitford)

  • Barry Johnson (Tom Hamilton)

  • Scott Camara (Joey Kramer)

Together, these five talented musicians perfectly recreate the sound, energy, and vibe of an Aerosmith concert; if you love Aerosmith, this is a show you Don’t Wanna Miss!

About the Band

“These are my boys!” exclaimed Sir PaulMcCartney after rocking out to a Chilli performance.

“Awesome!” said film star Ewen McGregor after he guested on drums with the Chillis

“Gotta get me some of that Red Hot Chilli Pipers!  I WANT some!” tweeted actor Samuel Jackson after seeing the band perform on NBC in the summer of 2012

Bagpipes with attitude.  Drums with a Scottish accent. A blazing rock band and show so hot, it carries its own health warning!

It’s Bagpipes. It’s Rock. It’s Bagrock. AC/DC meets the poet Robert Burns. Where rock anthems sit comfortably alongside the great tunes from the glens and the mountains of Scotland.

It’s The Red Hot Chilli PIPERS – (NOT the Peppers!) — a 9-piece ensemble consisting of pipersguitaristskeyboards, and drummers — who have been rocking the world from New York to Beijing to Melbourne and everywhere in between with musicianship of the highest order and a passion for pipes that will leave you breathless.  The band has four music degrees from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and all the pipers and drummers have played at the top level in bagpiping.

Since they walked away with the top prize on the primetime TV talent show, “When Will I Be Famous” in the U.K. in 2007, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers haven’t stopped for a breath, other than to inflate their bagpipes!  Formed in 2002, The Chillis have fast become a global phenomenon, taking their signature ‘Bagrock’ sound to the masses with their unique fusion of rocked up Bagpipes and clever covers of popular songs from all genres.  Their trademarked sound is a unique fusion of traditional pipe tunes – like “The Flowers of Scotland”, “The Hills of Argyll”, and “Amazing Grace” (done Chilli-style, of course!) — and contemporary anthems like Queen’s “We Will Rock You”, “Clocks” by Coldplay, “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol, “Let Me Entertain You” by Robbie Williams, and a fantastic rock medley of “Deep Purple”, “Smoke on the Water”, and AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck”.

Fun facts about the Chillis:

  • Over 2.5 million views on YouTube of their viral cover of the Avicci track ‘Wake Me Up’
  • Gold record for over 100,000 UK sales of their first album “Bagrock to the Masses”
  • Triple platinum album status for third album and DVD – “Blast Live”
  • Awarded twice for “Best Live Act in Scotland”
  • Sold out tours in the UK, USA, China Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Denmark, France, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Ukraine, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and India
  • Regular performances for A-List showbiz, sports stars and royalty – including Ewan McGregor, Sir Paul McCartney, Gary Player, Samuel Jackson and Her Majesty the Queen
  • Over 350,000 Facebook followers and a very active Twitter following of thousands of fans

The Chillis have never been more in demand for their infectious style of feel-good music which appeals right across the age range to people all over the world.  Theirs are the very best musicians from Scotland and across the globe – many holding World Champion titles and all serious players with impressive credentials and qualifications.   There has never been anything quite like The Red Hot Chilli Pipers.  Feel the Chilli heat:  It’s time to come closer to the fire!
